If You Only New

If only you knew,

What it takes to be me

Hours to iron out the wrinkles

Minutes spent tying up shoes

Memos to help me remember

String around the finger so I don’t forget

Post it notes are everywhere

But I haven’t found it yet

Where I was to begin with

The weeks go by so fast

January at the top of the page

Isn’t that Santa going passed

Old House

Puffs of dust about my feet, walking to the house

Eyes upon curling colors of paint, hearing that

Was once there, seeing people who once were

Among sounds and shadows of this proud house

Memories, thoughts, laughter, tears and fears

Echoes bounce around the halls and walls

Fading slowly into time with walls crumble

Stumbling amongst the rotten floorboards

Standing, looking back until it appears that

The house is just another shack amidst the

Droughted paddocks and gnarled trees

Finally disappearing, never a part of life again.

Summer's Day

Clear blue sky, haze, baked cracked red ground

Puffs of dust swirl, leaves roll down the road

Creaking signs, stretch of iron in the heat

Swish, the fan moves the still hot air, flies buzz

Water slides down the fridge door, motor hums

Sigh, wind comes, behind clouds drift, dark grey

Sweat trickles down, more clouds come, wind moans

Signs bang, joints of iron creak, dust fills air

Still, dense, soup, metallic nose, crack of light

Crash, puff of dust, spots on ground, sweet smell

Thousands of hob nail boots crash upon rooftops

Mute becomes voice, water crashing down

Mud, rivers along the ground, puddles, leaves swimming

Still, quiet, cool air, birds waken, cacophony

Frogs sing, thick air, sweat runs, mosquitoes call

Passes by another summer’s day

Tick Tock

Tick Tock, variety being the spice of life

Dreams bring hope, future, seen in visions

Quiet, water flowing, clouds pass, sun shines

Repleteness, calm, friends, paradise, song

Visit, stay a while, fly among the stars

Scenes to view, Billies to boil, cuppas to share

Embraces, handshakes, languages, lamingtons

Knowledge, education, mine yours, building

Sorrow, faith, steel, cement, bridges, gauntlet

Smiles, plants, pyramids, atlantis, deities

Art, science, belief, fantasy, dragons, astronauts

Black to White

Flying Elephants

Us.

War

I saw him standin’ alone

Hair white, eyes sad, no-one else

He spoke, stood tall, looked around

Walked away, this one proud and tall

The medals alone there on his breast

No-one else to see the respect

As he stood tall amongst the names

Forgotten, booze not hiding the pain

The sounds, the roar, the blood and more

Where does it go when they come home

The feather, the hate, the disgust

No friend, no family, no legs

Where did they go the ones before

The love and child with the guns and bombs

They thought they were good and would win

But caused the drop of the sun with war

There is no-one left now there or here

Who gives a damn or even cares

No tears, no shame, no cause, no pain

We don’t know him or his mate
